Wainwright wrote one Pictorial Guide for each part of the Lake District, starting with the Eastern Fells in 1955 and finishing with the Western Fells in 1966. Plenty of walkers still bag them book by book.

How the fells are divided
The books came out in this order: the Eastern Fells in 1955, then the Far Eastern (1957), Central (1958), Southern (1960), Northern (1962), North Western (1964) and Western (1966). Each fell belongs to one book, so the seven areas add up to the 214 Wainwrights.
Valleys, lakes and passes make most of the borders. Sty Head divides the Western Fells from the Southern Fells, and Honister Pass divides them from the North Western Fells. The areas vary in size. The Northern Fells have 24 Wainwrights and the Far Eastern Fells have 36. The Southern Fells hold the highest ground, including Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. The Western Fells have the most fells we rate difficult.
